This concerto was completed in 1786 during a very productive period in Mozarts life. This word is in the sonata-allegro form with a double exposition, one for the orchestra and one for the soloist. Notice the dotted rhythm in the second theme and how it is used to build the theme of the development and is further developed in the recapitulation. The most impressive aspects of a concerto is to display the technique of the soloist especially while the orchestra is playing the themes. Long scale passages show off the pianists technique. The cadenza is also a place for display. The cadenza was often a place for the soloist to improvise musical ideas based on the themes of the movement. Today cadenzas are not improvised. When improvised, they are very exciting.
